On May 30th 2025 Laura Spagnuolo successfully defended her PhD thesis in Chemistry and Materials Science entitled “Mechano-enzymatic extraction of cellulose nanocrystals and their functionalization for antibacterial materials”.
Laura is the first PhD laureate of the NanoLeaves Laboratory and she fascinated the panel and the public with her inspiring work about the use of enzymes and eco-friendly approaches towards antibacterial coating. Laura’s work is part of the PON Program – Research and Innovation (FSE REACT-EU) and was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Alessandra Operamolla and in collaboration with the company Pangaia Grado Zero Srl, under the supervision of Giada Dammacco, and with Grenoble INP, LGP2 laboratory under the supervision of Prof. Alain Dufresne. Laura is now a post doctoral researcher at the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry, working on a project on ancient paper conservation through nanocellulose coating, entitled SALVABIO. Surely Laura will continue in the next two years pursuing interesting and exciting science and seeking for innovative applications of nanocellulose and other renewable biomolecules! Congratulations to Laura for a future rich of success and satisfaction!
