In October 2025, Prof. Alessandra Operamolla from the University of Pisa visited the University of Science and Technology Houari Boumediene (USTHB) – Faculty of Mechanical and Process Engineering (FGMGP) – as part of the Erasmus+ KA171 project coordinated by the University of Pisa.
During her visit, Prof. Operamolla delivered an intensive 8-hour course for PhD and Master’s students entitled:
“Lignocellulosic Biopolymers: Chemistry and Advanced Materials Applications.”
Her lectures on nanocellulose and lignin were highly appreciated for their clarity and depth, offering students a unique opportunity to explore cutting-edge research in sustainable materials.
The visit also fostered collaboration: discussions on joint research projects, tours of the department and laboratories, and a visit to the Center for Materials Characterization opened new avenues for future partnerships.
Beyond academic activities, Prof. Operamolla enjoyed discovering the historical sites of Algiers, Tipaza, and Blida, and tasting traditional dishes such as couscous. She was warmly hosted by Prof. Hichem Zergane, former Visiting Researcher at the University of Pisa.
This experience marks an important step toward strengthening international cooperation and advancing research in lignocellulosic biopolymers and sustainable materials.
