Laura is a Post-Doc researcher with a fellowship financed by Regione Toscana within the program FSE+ 2021-2027. The name of her project is “SALVABIO- Sustainability and Biocompatibility for the Conservation of Book Heritage with Nanocellulose”. During her project, Laura will extract cellulose nanocrystals from cellulosic biomass and use the nanocrystals as a protective coating for historical paper. Previously, Laura has been a PhD student under the supervision of Alessandra Operamolla. She successfully defended her thesis, entitled “Mechano-enzymatic extraction of cellulose nanocrystals and their functionalization for antibacterial materials”, in May 2025. Laura has accomplished her PhD studies with a high level of internationalization, having completed long and short research visits at INP Grenoble (LGP2 Laboratory, Supervisor Prof. Alain Dufresne) and at Zernike Institute for Advanced Materials, University of Groningen (Supervisor Prof. Patrick van der Wel). Laura’s research interests concern enzymes, cellulose nanocrystals and antibacterial materials.
